This is a lovely walk of a little over 3 Km from Ottery St Mary to Tipton St John, alongside the River Otter. The walk is through pasture land, with a dismantled railway running the length, though the footpath does not necessarily follow the course of the railway line.
Place | Start | End |
---|---|---|
Ottery -> Tipton | SY 0940 9515 | SY 0920 9176 |
Tipton -> Ottery | SY 0872 9210 | SY 0940 9515 |
There are pubs and cafes at both ends of the walk and the return journey can be along the other river bank.
Both places are less than an hour from our holiday cottages and the car trip can be a circular one through the Blackdown Hills and East Devon AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) so is a scenic drive.
Streetmap shows the walk from Ottery St Mary to Tipton St John alongside the river and back across the river.
The drawing, right, shows where the photos were taken. You don't have to do the whole walk from Tipton St John to Ottery St Mary as there is a bridge at point 8, so it is good for short walks.
