This is some 21 miles from our holiday cottages in South Perrott, so about 35 minutes drive.
Thorncombe Woods are home to the visitor centre and the cottage where Thomas Hardy was born. It is contiguous with Puddletown Forest. The woods are broad-leafed (mainly beech) whereas Puddletown Forest is mixed (mainly pine). An old Roman Road from Dorchester to Badbury Rings (which, in Roman times, was a major road junction) passes through the area.
